Blackpool Illuminations Centenary 2012 Public Art commission

.

This project has been like eating a delicious bar of chocolate -a pleasure on many levels. Firstly, the opportunity to re- create these wonderful sculptural light works, they are called Fluted Pylons with a modern twist. Secondly,  the chance to work with the amazing 1930s Collection of drawings and photographs from the Illumination Archives - what a treasure trove of beautiful Illustrative drawings, luminous creations of light, fun, ingenuity and superb draughtmanship. The opportunity to work with the Head of the Illuminations, Richard Ryan a specialist engineers and lighting professional who provides the expertise and knowledge to help realise sophisticated robust lighting solutions.
This project has been funded by Arts Council England, and an important part of this project is Public Engagement, so in august I will be in Blackpool for three weeks working with three community group making lightboxes, drawings and design work inspired by the work I have been doing and the wonderful collections that Illuminations has which in my opinion is rich legacy of creative , inventive public light schemes.
